Hey followers,
I know I said in my last post that I was hoping to post more this month than I have in the last few months...
Because of new circumstances, that will not be happening.
My church is doing Lent (like they do every year) and though you're not required to participate, we're encouraged to, and I'm taking this opportunity to give up something that generally takes up 90% of my time:
Social Media.
I spend more time than I care to admit on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and more, and the more time I spend with my phone in front of my face, the less time I spend with family and friends. So I'm challenging myself to put my iPod down and close my laptop, and generally be more productive.
Maybe this isn't technically for Lent, maybe I'll cheat once in awhile and scroll through Instagram for 10 minutes, I'll probably still get on Pinterest to look for craft projects instead of spending time in front of a screen.
This is a challenge and a promise I'm making to myself and to God, it's not "for Lent", it's not to please anyone else, and we'll see how long I last, but I'm doing this to make a habit of it.
If I spend 40 days away from social media and generally spend less time on my laptop, I'll be less likely after the 40 days is over to resort to that with all my free time.
I deleted my social media apps from my iPod and am downloading the Bible app, because that's why I'm doing this, instead of spending an hour catching up on social media when I wake, I spend that hour reading God's word. I'm hoping to get a devotional book of some sort, but for now the app will have to do.
So, it's been real guys, see you in 40 days.
xoxo
Molly
This is so brave of you. I mean, I had no internet for five months so I know that its possible to go without social media, but I seriously don't think I could do it by choice. Today should be about the end of your lent fast thing so congratulations for succeeding!! Well done:)
ReplyDeleteSucceeding? hahahahaha..... I did not. I mostly stayed off blogger and pinterest, but otherwise I failed, but for good reason. We do a lot of stuff in our ministry and Uganda through different forms of social media (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, mainly) so I really couldn't afford to stay off completely.
